Former Fire Chief to be Honored Thursday

Former Clayton Fire Chief Larry Castleberry will be honored Thursday at Fire Station No. 1 during the quarterly meeting of the Eastern Carolina Firefighters Association.

Castleberry, a longtime member of the association, retired nearly 15 years ago after a long career in firefighting.

"This is something we're very much looking forward to," said Chief Lee Barbee. "Chief Castleberry has contributed quite a bit to our community over the years."

The festivities will be part of a very busy schedule. The Fire Department is also hosting a State Firemen's Association meeting the same day.

"We're fortunate to be hosting both these meetings this week," the Chief said. "It will give our people a chance to network with fellow firefighters from all over the state, a chance to share ideas and experiences and form important new connections and new friendships."
