Upgrades Provide Better Options for Outages

Clayton Public Power, the town's electric company, is working on major upgrades in two parts of town that should provide more and better options for restoring power quickly when outages occur.

Crews are working on Fayetteville Street from US 70 to Main Street and at Glen Laurel subdivision.

Electric System Director Ronnie Wood said work will shift to other parts of town when these projects are completed.

"It is our goal to continue to upgrade circuits over the next few years, which will give us additional capabilities and enhance our ability to restore service quickly," Wood said. "I'd like to say 'Thank You' to those who are being inconvenienced by this work for your patience and understanding."

The work on Fayetteville Street will increase the capabilities of facilities in the area, and give operators more options for working around outages. Wood said the crews should be finished by the end of February.

At Glen Laurel, crews are installing three-phase underground bulk feeder cable along the 17th and 18th fairways, increasing capabilities in the area and providing a backup for the subdivision's main system. Wood said crews will need to interrupt power in the area sometime within the next few weeks to bring a portion of the new facilities online. The entire project should be completed by summer, he said.
