Library Book Sale Coming Saturday, March 12
Hundreds of books of all types will be on sale at low prices Saturday, March 12 at the downtown Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library as part of the Friends of the Library Spring Book Sale.
Residents have carried out books by the armload at previous book sales, and Library staff are preparing for another large crowd.
"There will be something of interest for every book lover," said Library Historian Pam Baumgartner. "We invite you to come, browse and fill one of our provided bags for only $12.00. You won’t find a better bargain anywhere. A Collector’s Corner of special books will also be available."
There will be plenty of books available for children, too.
"For our younger readers, there will also be a selection of used books," she said. "New Scholastic books will be for sale in the children’s room. Geronimo Stilton and Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus series will be visiting."
Proceeds from the event—planned for 8 am to 2 pm—will go toward the purchase of new books and materials.
Most of the books in the fundraising sale are duplicates that the Library doesn't have room to keep, though some have been donated by residents especially for the book sale as a way to help the Library raise money.
"If you have books you would like to donate for this sale, please drop them off at the library during regular business hours by March 9, if at all possible," Baumgartner said. "Children’s books are always in demand."
People from all over the area have crowded into the Library for sales like this over the last few years, taking thousands of books home with them and raising thousands for the Library. The atmosphere has been similar to the floor of the New York Stock Exchange as frenzied crowds carry books by the armload.
