Message from Clayton Parks & Recreation Director, Larry Bailey
Now is the time to get outside and explore! Our parks & greenways offer numerous opportunities to enjoy the spring & summer weather. Over five miles of paved greenways along Sam’s Branch and the Neuse River are now open and two trailhead parking lots are available. There is also a new one mile partially paved trail at East Clayton Community Park that is now open. Walk, bike, stroll, or jog your way to better health and enjoy our natural beauty.
A new Nature Program will stimulate your child’s interest in birds, insects, reptiles, amphibians, and other critters. A partnership with Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library will promote reading materials and resources on these topics and experts will lead the sessions.
We have baseball and softball leagues for youth and adults and a variety of special events from the Easter Egg hunt for the toddlers to Senior Games for the young at heart. Our 5K Clayton Road Race turns 30 this year!
The annual Summer Playground Program offers supervised FUN for 10 weeks and there are sport camps for soccer, volleyball, basketball and baseball.
We also hope you will join us for our family July 4th Celebration at Municipal Park. Bring your blanket or lawn chair and relax or dance to our bands and enjoy activities for all ages. Where else can you get a free slice of watermelon and ice cream cone, run a three-legged race with your child, win a prize at corn hole and listen to great music. That all leads up to the best fireworks show in the area that must be seen from the park to be fully appreciated.
Take advantage of our programs and facilities and see why Clayton is "The Premier Community for the Active Families".
