Streets & Storm Drainage
The Town of Clayton performs routine street maintenance, such as pothole patching, on a continuous basis, weather permitting. Within the Town of Clayton most neighborhood and minor collector streets are the maintenance responsibility of the Town while most commercial routes and thoroughfares come under the responsibility of the North Carolina Department of Transportation. See the links below to determine whether a particular street is part of the Town system of streets or is part of the NC DOT Highway System.
Potholes, storm drainage back-ups, and similar needed repairs to Town streets can be reported to the Operations Center by calling 919-553-1530 or by email at opscenter@townofclaytonnc.org. Similarly street light outages can be reported to the Operations Center. For street light calls it is very useful if you provide the number that is affixed to each pole for more accurate identification. Also, please relate in your call or note whether the light is off continuously or it is cycling on and off periodically as a cycling light indicates a different response by the technician.
The Town of Clayton has a multi-year list of streets in need of resurfacing. Each year the Town performs resurfacing and related improvements such as sidewalk installation or replacement, curb and gutter installation or repair, and any necessary subsurface maintenance including water and sewer line replacements.
Chapter 99 of the Town of Clayton Code of Ordinances governs rules and regulations associated with Streets and Sidewalks.
