The Information Services Department serves to advise and support the Town Council, Town Manager, and other departments and staff of the Town of Clayton in the management and use of Information Technology. Effective use of technology facilitates improved and more cost efficient services to the citizens of Clayton. The department consists of Information Technology and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).

Information Services Mission Statement

The Information Services Department will evaluate, integrate and support innovative technologies to help internal and external customers achieve their goals, while effectively maximizing return on resources and providing cost effective methods for citizens, businesses, vendors and others to easily access information and conduct business with the Town.

Information Technology

Information Technology (IT) is responsible for the administration, security and data integrity of 21 Windows and Linux servers. These servers are home to applications that support the Town's Emergency Services, Finance, Utilities, Library, Parks and Recreation, Community Development, Internet and Geographic Information Systems. This team also provides installation, configuration and troubleshooting services for over 120 personal computers at over 5 Town facilities as well as mobile computing and communications. They provide tools and training for data analysis, support for communication including voice, wireless, and data; and enhancing and improving information exchange from department to department and to the citizens of Clayton. IT also operates a Help Desk that provides troubleshooting services to departments for the efficient utilization of computerized systems.

Information Technology Mission Statement

The mission of Information Technology is to provide, operate, and maintain a secure and stable infrastructure as the foundation of Town automation, data communications and voice transmission; lead the implementation of application software to meet the evolutionary needs of client departments; provide cost effective client services within a performance envelope that meets user requirements; and to establish Citywide guidelines to maintain technological currency and provide direction for strategic change.

Geographic Information Services

Geographic Information Services (GIS) is responsible for the support and maintenance of the Town's Geographic Information System program. The duties of this department include providing; creation, acquisition, development, maintenance, distribution, training and exchange of spatial or geographic information.

GIS Mission Statement

The mission of the Town of Clayton GIS staff is to support the activities of the Town of Clayton and its citizens by providing and maintaining accurate, current and complete geospatial data. This support will be provided through leveraging the knowledge contained in this information by using a set of procedures and techniques collectively referred to as a Geographic Information System. Using the Geographic Information System (GIS), the staff will enable the managers and citizens to make decisions impacting the future of the Town of Clayton in an informed and logical manner.
