Hours
The Town of Clayton's operating hours are 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. Work hours may vary according to the department's work schedule.
Group Health and Hospitalization Coverage
The Town provides group health and hospitalization insurance for regular full time and part time employees*. Employees may purchase dependent coverage through the Town's group health plan.
Dental Coverage
The Town provides dental coverage for regular full and part time employees*. Employees may purchase dependent coverage through the Town's group dental plan.
Life Insurance
The Town provides a life insurance policy of one times salary up to a maximum of $100,000.00 to all regular full-time employees. Also, employees may purchase supplemental life insurance coverage.
Short Term Disability (Voluntary Coverage)
The disability benefit is based on the plan elected and the premiums are based on plan selection and your age.
Accidental Insurance
ALFAC Accidental insurance is available for employees to purchase. The benefit is available to employees and their family and is also based on plan selection.
Retirement
Each employee who is expected to work for the Town of Clayton more than 1,000 hours annually shall be covered by the North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System. All employees are eligible for membership effective their first day of employment. A six percent (6%) employee contribution is deducted from pay for the retirement plan. The Town contributes four percent (4%) for non law enforcement employees and five percent (5%) toward a 401(k) supplemental retirement plan. Employees may elect to voluntary contribute to this plan.
Social Security
The Town, to the extent of its lawful authority and power, extends Social Security benefits for all eligible employees.
Holidays
The policy of the Town is to follow the holiday schedule provided by the state of North Carolina. In order to receive a paid holiday, an employee must have worked the day before and the day after the holiday(s) or have been given approved leave.
Vacation
Each full-time employee shall accrue annual leave based on the following schedule:

Sick Leave
Each full-time employee shall earn sick leave at the rate of eight hours per calendar month of service, or a maximum of 96 hours per year.
Employee Assistance Program
The Employee Assistance Program is a benefit designed to assist employees of the Town of Clayton with any kind of personal problem they may be experiencing. The EAP offers assessments, problem solving counseling and referrals to resources or treatment providers. This service is offered at no cost to employees.
Tuition Assistance
Full-time employees who have completed their initial introductory period may apply for tuition reimbursement for courses taken on their own time which will improve their skills for their current job or prepare them for promotional opportunities within the Town's service. Employees may receive financial assistance up to $1000 per fiscal year for courses relating to their present job or to a future position with the Town of Clayton.
Longevity Recognition
A program of longevity pay may be provided, in the Town's discretion, to recognize and reward the total years of service as a regular Town employee. Payments may be made, in the Town's discretion, to recognize service for the following ranges of service: 0 to 4 years, 5 to 9 years, 10 to 14 years, 15 and over. The amounts of longevity payments, if any, will be determined annually in the discretion of the Town at the time of adoption of the budget.
Workers Compensation
All Town Employees (full and part time) are covered under the North Carolina Worker's Compensation Act.
*Benefits for part-time employees are pro rated based on a 40 hour week.
