The Finance Department provides accounting and financial management in support of all Town operations and in strict accordance with North Carolina General Statutes. This department manages cash and investments, fixed assets, debt, grants, payroll and procurement of goods and services for all Town departments. It also administers the Risk Management program.

Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (CAFR)
The Town of Clayton has received a national award, the CAFR, in recognition of the comprehensive nature of its annual audited financial statement every year since 2001.The Government Finance Officers Association for the United States and Canada receives, reviews, and decides which agencies achieve the highest standards in governmental accounting and financial reporting each year. Those meeting superior standards receive a Certificate of Achievement (the CAFR) as recognition of this high accomplishment.
