Here's a message about what's ahead from Director Larry Bailey:
Hope everyone can find something of interest in this latest brochure of our Parks and Recreation programs, classes, facilities, and special events. Try a new class or learn a new hobby or maybe check out our trail system that covers diverse parts of the community. Learn how to grow fresh vegetables in your backyard or try a new sport like bocce.
About the Cover: Bocce is a sport that can be traced back to the Romans, but the Italians made it popular and developed the current rules used today. Did you know Clayton hosts a Sons of Italy qualifier every spring open to anyone, a regional Special Olympics Bocce
qualifier in the fall, and also the North Carolina Senior Games State Finals Bocce Tournament every October? More than 150 senior adults come from Cherokee to Dare counties come to compete for medals and represent their local Senior Games. Our 8 tournament courts also host the Johnston County Senior Games each spring. But bocce is the perfect sport for families and really all age groups as an 80 year old can play an 8 year old and both enjoy the game. It is a simple game to learn and we have equipment if you want to try. Just let us know and we can help get you started. Call our office to reserve equipment or check on availability of courts.
Take advantage of our many programs, sports leagues, and park facilities and see why Clayton is “The Premier Community for Active Families.”
