Town of Clayton Notice of Water Use Restrictions
Updated March 13, 2008
Water Restrictions Eased
The Town of Clayton is cooperating closely with the County of Johnston on setting and enforcing water use restrictions for all customers. The Town has agreed at this time to follow the plan recently adopted by Johnston County whereby users may water their lawn any day of the week by use of a hand held hose. Also shrubbery and ornamentals may be irrigated by means of a soaker or drip type hose. Use of automated, in-ground or freestanding irrigation systems for lawn watering is not allowed at this time. The loosening of water use restrictions extends to allowance for personal car washing and home power washing.
Water flow levels in the Neuse River, the water supply source for the Town and County, will be monitored on a monthly basis to determine adequacy of supply volume to support irrigation and other non essential uses. Restrictions may change based on the volume of water available from the supply source.
Customers of the Town of Clayton utility system who operate an in ground irrigation system with a mandated backflow prevention device may receive a letter of notification regarding testing and certification of the device prior to system operation. Please be advised that you need not have the device tested by the date indicated unless you intend to prepare for the further loosening of irrigation controls. Although it is uncertain when use of in ground, automated systems may become allowed , you may choose to have your backflow device tested and certified consistent with requirements at this time or you may choose to delay testing and certification until such time that controls are further relaxed. In any event, your backflow device must have a valid certification in order to operate an in ground irrigation system.
