Downtown Development Coordinator
The Downtown Development Coordinator position is located in the Planning Department and serves as a contact point and coordinator for the purpose of promoting downtown Clayton through expansion, enhancement and retention of existing development, and the attraction of new businesses into the Town. Duties include the development of data, statistics and publications which highlight the economic success and potential of the Town; identification of prospective businesses and business development; coordination of the Downtown Development Association (DDA) Board activities; development of grant opportunities and grant direction; and coordination of the Main Street program. Work requires considerable independent responsibility while coordinating activities and executing work in a timely matter. The Development Coordinator must exercise independent judgment, as well as technical competence and an ability to consider and understand financial, socio-economic, legal and regulatory variables that impact the Town. The Downtown Development Coordinator position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in business, urban or regional planning, economics or a closely related field; three years of professional economic development, business or planning experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience. Certification from National Main Street Program preferred. Hiring range: $46k to $48k. Open until filled.
Construction Project Administrator
The Construction Project Administrator position is located in the Public Works Department. Major responsibilities include project management, contract administration, and construction inspections within the scope of the Public Works Department. Will coordinate, supervise, and inspect and review contractors work for compliance with accepted practices, plans and specifications. Coordinate and supervise payment to consultants, contractors, and public agencies. Ensure that all project or program activities comply with applicable laws and regulations. Supervise, review the work of, and provide guidance to consultants producing plans, studies or designs and/or related public works documents. Prepare and make reports and/or presentations as required to the Town Council, community groups, public agencies and the public. Review project or program plans and permits. Respond to complaints and concerns and provide technical assistance to groups such as developers, contractors, engineers, public agencies, businesses, or members of the public. Performs duties as assigned by the Town Engineer. Serve as the Town’s representative to various technical groups and associations, coordinate with other departments and agencies and represent the Town’s interests in interagency coordination. Graduation from a two year technical school or community college with a major in civil engineering, engineering technology, drafting, design, or related field and related enforcement, inspection, construction or engineering experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Hiring range: $46k to $48k. Open until filled.
The Town of Clayton is seeking a Building Inspector responsible for performing inspections of new and remodeled residential dwellings and commercial buildings in multiple trades to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws/regulations/ordinances. Must be capable of working in varying outdoor settings. Must have ability to perform inspections in all four trades, building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical and possess standard certification in these four trades from the NC Department of Insurance with the ability to obtain Standard Level III Certification in all four trades. Must be able to work and communicate well with all types of people and maintain an appropriate level of professional behavior with the public as well as with co-workers. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by course work in a variety of inspection specialties and considerable experience in the building construction trade. This is a full-time position with benefits. Salary dependent on qualifications. Open until filled.
