Mondo Roots Cultural Arts and Music Festival is a celebration of diversity, art and music!
This is a free event to all ages.
The festival will have multiple artists, vendors, musical performances and public art demonstrations.
Musical Performances will include The Lee Boys, Sol Driven Train, Black Masala, The Amateurs and many more.
There will be over 50 artists and vendors selling and array of fine art and crafts. The Festival starts at 1 p.m. in Downtown Clayton. This is a rain or shine event.
Mardi Gras Themed, Mask Making Tent:
We are turning Main Street into Bourbon Street for a day! Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library is hosting a mask making tent for the kids from 1-5 p.m. They can get creative and then join in the parade being lead by Black Masala at 3:30 p.m. from the Wagner House to the Main Stage! The mask making event is for ages 3 - 16.
Outdoor Public Art Celebration:
Please stop by the Town of Clayton Public Art Advisory tent. Learn about all the amazing art projects this team of town volunteers have been spreading around the community...from adding sculptures to public spaces, to collaborating with schools to add beautiful outdoor art to greenways to finding ways to preserve history through art...they do it all!
At Mondo Roots, the group will be holding a fundraiser to raise money for our next student art project - they're selling the gorgeous hand-crafted Whimsical Birds, who have lived on the Sam's Branch Greenway for the past two years. These colorful wooden creations designed and painted by Cooper Elementary, Powhatan Elementary, Clayton Middle and Clayton High School Students. will make a wonderful additions to your yard, garden or even inside your home! Just $25, $50 or $75 and all the money goes right back into our next project inspiring young students to create amazing public art!
And PLEASE stop by and see our People's Choice winner from the 3rd Annual Clayton Sculpture Trail contest - Corey Lancaster! His 6-foot tall "Fiddle Frog" which proudly stood in tuxedo and fiddle on the lawn of Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library was carved with a chainsaw. Lancaster will be carving away at live demonstrations at the 1st Annual Mondo Roots Cultural Arts Festival. You won't want to miss seeing this artist at work!
Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest:
1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Think you or your child would like to draw and create a masterpiece with chalk? Make sure you sign up for the Sidewalk Chalk Contest. All sidewalk judging will take place between 4 to 5 pm and the winners will be announced at 5 p.m. This is an all ages event.
Don't want to work? Want to bang on the drum all day? Bring your drum and join in the fun. We are hosting a drum circle from 1pm to 8pm on the front lawn of the Historic Wagner House. This is an all ages event.
Mini, New Orleans Style, Parade:
Black Masala will take the stage around 3:45 p.m. They will gather in front of the Historic Wagner House at approximately 3:30 p.m. and parade on down to the Main Stage accompanied by anyone who wishes to tag along. What a sight it would be to have all the kids parading alongside with the masks they made at the Library tent.
