Don't miss the biggest event in the Town of Clayton!
The Clayton Chamber of Commerce promises 5 days of fun from September 14 - 18, 2016. Nearly 20,000 people fill Downtown Clayton for this annual weekend of music, vendors, food, rides, performances and so much more for the entire family! And don't miss the final year of the incredible Clayton Idol Competition on the first night of the festival! Join Mayor Jody McLeod at Horne Square at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14 as he helps cut the ribbon and officially open the carnival rides and kick-off the 2016 Clayton Harvest & Musical Festival!
On the first night of the festival, join Town Clerk Kimberly Moffett as she organizes the 11th and final year of the popular Clayton Idol competition. Yes, it was Clayton Idol that first crowned country superstar Scotty McCreery a singing sensation in 200, and he would go on to national fame winning American Idol in 2011. It's that kind of talent we hope to discover in the final year of the Clayton Idol competition. Get your front row seat at the main stage in Town Square at 6 p.m., Wednesday, September 14.
Then Thursday, Sept. 15, the Clayton Downtown Development Association will be hosting the last of our Town Square concert at 7 p.m. with Natural Wonder – the ultimate Stevie Wonder experience – presented by Matthews Motors!
Then join the CDDA on Main Street on Saturday, Sept. 17 for the huge vendor fair where they'll be sharing great information about our downtown events, businesses, upcoming Christmas Village & Tree Lighting event AND how you can get involved in preserving and enhancing the wonderful small town charm of Downtown Clayton!
Stop by our Town and Parks & Recreation staff booth on Saturday too! We'll be in the "Fitness Village" in the Clayton Mart parking lot on Main Street just down from the corner of Church Street. Learn about our upcoming programs and events and view maps of our parks and greenways.
And Hocutt-Ellington Memorial Library may be closed for the day on Saturday, Sept. 17, but please check out the library team at The Wagner House during the Saturday vendor fair!. North Carolina Poet Laureate Shelby Stephenson will host for a reading inside the historic home on Main Street beginning at 1 p.m. Students who wish to meet Mr. Stephenson and share their literary works with him are encouraged to contact the library and reserve a spot. Enjoy live music from Clayton's Hamptown Music Institute, along with sculptors, painters and pencil artists demonstrating their techniques outside on the lawn and front porch.
