Planning Board

The Planning Board is an advisory board comprised of ten total representatives including two alternates appointed proportionally from citizens inside the Town limits by the Town Council and the Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ) by the Johnston County Board of Commissioners. Regular and alternate members are appointed for three (3) year terms. The Planning Board also includes a Town Council person in an ex-officio status.

The Board reviews rezoning petitions, subdivision regulations and helps with community planning. It is the Planning Board’s duty to generate recommendations to the Town Council. The role of this Board is to consider the impact a particular proposal would have on the community. This Board usually bases its recommendations on the Strategic Growth Plan and allied plans and documents as well as the Council adopted long range planning goals. The Planning Board usually meets in the Town Hall, 111 E. Second Street, on the fourth Monday of every month at 7:00pm. If that Monday falls on a holiday, the board will meet at the same time on the next workday.
