Festivals and special events such as Millstock Music and Art Faire, The Harvest Festival, Halloween Parade, Christmas Tree Lighting, Town Square Concert Series and others draw visitors and residents to Downtown of a good time and some old fashion hospitality.
The Clayton Center Auditorium and Conference Center provides a full season of professional entertainment with such legendary performers as Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Harlem Gospel Choir, Doc Watson, and other national touring acts.. Monthly art exhibits of local artists are featured in the vast and bright lobby of The Clayton Center which also serves as the government offices for the Town of Clayton. In addition to serving as the center of government and cultural activities The Clayton Center complex offers first rate business conference center and public reception facilities in the historic setting of the former Clayton School buildings.
Founded in 1869, long time and new residents alike are rediscovering many of the historical and architecturally significant buildings and neighborhoods that add charm and character to downtown. The importance of this history will be preserved for future generations as the Town is seeking a nomination to the National Register of Historic Places.
Downtown Clayton is very accessible with I-40 and I-95 just minutes away. Downtown Clayton is just twenty minutes from Downtown Raleigh, the state Capitol, and about a thirty minute drive from Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
All in all, downtown Clayton is a great place to shop, visit and live.
